Asus has released its zenfone 5 series of smartphones on 28th February at MWC 2018. A total of three devices have been announced by Asus which are the Asus Zenfone 5 Lite, Asus Zenfone 5 and Asus Zenfone 5z. The launch event was held on 28th February 2018 at Mobile World Congress, Barcelona.

Asus Zenfone 5 Lite
The Zenfone 5 Lite is the budget offering from Asus in 2018 but it does pack in some solid specifications inside it. Asus Zenfone 5 Lite comes in two variants one with the octa-core Snapdragon 630 SoC coupled with 4GB of ram and other with the octa-core Snapdragon 430 SoC coupled with 3GB of ram. The screen aspect ratio is as expected the trending 18:9 and it is a 6.00 inch FHD+ display (2160 x 1080 pixels). The smartphone packs in 32GB of internal storage which is can be expanded further via microSD card. The Asus Zenfone 5 Lite has a 3300mah battery that might last you for an entire day on normal usage.
The main highlight here though are the cameras. Zenfone 5 Lite has a dual camera setup on both front and back. The front camera is 20MP (f/2.0, 23mm) main shooter along with an ultra-wide sensor and soft selfie flash. The rear camera has a 16MP (f/2.2, 24mm) main shooter along with an ultra-wide sensor and dual led flash. Both the cameras have electronic image stabilization (gyro EIS).
The mid point has always been the most attractive option in many cases and so is the case here. The Asus Zenfone 5 which is the second of the three offerings from Asus this year is the most compelling to us. The Asus Zenfone 5 is miles ahead of the previous offering - Zenfone 5 Lite in terms of both design and specifications.
The Asus Zenfone 5 has a full screen "bezel-less" display with a notch at the top just like the iPhone X but the notch is slightly smaller than the iPhone X. The screen is not an OLED panel but a LCD screen, it still looks quite impressive. Asus calls this device as an intelligent phone rather than a smartphone as this time Asus has kept its focus on AI and there are a lot of features working around AI that are present in the Asus Zenfone 5. One such feature is the AI camera. The AI camera of the Zenfone 5 is intelligent enough to recognize the object in the scene and adjust the camera properties like the color saturation, exposure etc for the best image. There is also an AI boost that Asus claims can improve the performance of your Zenfone 5 significantly. In the launch event Asus claimed that the Antutu score without AI boost enabled was around 120,000 but with AI boost enabled it was 142,000 which is a significant improvement but that has to tested out in real world once it is available for review.
The specifications are nothing to boast of but are decent for a mid-range smartphone. It comes with the new Snapdragon 636 SoC coupled with either 4GB or 6GB of ram. It also has a dual camera setup (12MP main shooter + 8MP wide angle lens) at the back and a 8MP selfie shooter also coupled with an ultra wide sensor at the front. It has 64GB of internal storage and stereo speakers. Zenfone 5 sports a 19:9 aspect ratio FHD+ display. The device is powered by 3300mah battery and comes with all the required sensors from gyroscrope sensor to the proximity sensor.

Asus Zenfone 5z
The Asus Zenfone 5z is similar to Asus Zenfone 5 in terms of looks and also features all the AI focused use cases present in the Asus Zenfone 5. The difference here is that this is a flagship device from Asus and thus features the latest Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with 4GB/6GB/8GB of ram.The pricing of Asus Zenfone 5z starts from 479 euros for the base 4GB model.
