Samsung Galaxy S8 is samsung’s latest offering in the
popular Galaxy S series smartphones by Samsung. Samsung Galaxy S8 is one step
ahead of it’s predecessor Samsung Galaxy S7 with much more cleaner side edges
and a more screen to body ratio.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is a phone that’s is truly a 2017nized
version of a smartphone with much slimmer bezels than ever and a display which Samsung
calls the Infinity display, which just gives an immersive experience. It’s just
stunning.
Lets have a look at the specifications –
Screen - 5.8 inches, AMOLED
Memory – 4GB Ram + 64GB Memory (Expandable upto 256GB via
microSD)
Processor – Qualcomm Snapdragon 835
GPU – Adreno 540
Camera – 12 MP (f/1.7, 26mm, 1/2.5", 1.4 µm), phase
detection autofocus, OIS, LED flash
8 MP, f/1.7, autofocus, 1440p@30fps, dual
video call, Auto HDR
On the paper Galaxy S8 does look quite impressive and breaks
all charts whatsoever. So everything comes down to the overall user experience and
the pricing of the device. So lets dive into the details in each segment and
arrive at a final verdict.
Display
The screen is AMOLED and as expected from a brand like
Samsung which is known for it’s work in the display segment, the Galaxy S8 does
not disappoint. The screen becomes reasonably bright outside and is clearly
visible indoors as well as outdoors.
The colors are sharp and slightly over-saturated. The blacks
are pitch black and the whites are clear. There are a few complaints of screen
burn and color shifting in some devices but that just them and can be corrected
by a simple software upgrade.
Performance
The snapdragon 835 is capable enough to handle the most
demanding tasks you throw at it. All high end gaming titles run smoothly thanks
to the Adreno 540 GPU and the 4GB Ram.
There is absolutely no compromises in performance however it
is yet to be seen how galaxy S8 keeps this performance upright as Samsung
smartphones have had a reputation for being laggy after a few months usage.
The 12 megapixel shooter shoots nice and clear photos during
daylight and the photos are also less noisy in artificial lighting and dark
situations. The camera performance in low lighting conditions is something that
has to be appreciated for this device.
The selfie camera is also good if not amazing (Check out the
camera review for Google Pixel XL 2).
Galaxy S8 does have pretty good specs and other luring features say, the
screen, the dual edge, cameras etc but it has it’s share of cons. The main issue is the placement of the fingerprint sensor
which most of the users will not like. For keeping this beautiful device the
way it looks now, Samsung had to make some compromises like
placing the
fingerprint sensor in the most odd place possible which is right beside the
rear camera.
So you will end up smudging your camera lens by repeatedly
trying to unlock your phone. Not only the fingerprint sensor, there are other
cons as well like the annoying bixby button which to our surprise is not remappable.
Yes, there a couple of 3rd party applications
available but I would not recommend them to use as there are complaints of
these applications interfering with the daily driving tasks.
Verdict
Finally, after talking this much about the Galaxy S8 my
feeling about this device is same as that when I first saw it and had it in my
hands. It’s wonderful!! Although it has it’s cons like the oddly placed
fingerprint sensor but it is just so attractive that I can’t say a no to this
beauty, But that’s just me.
So, what do you think about this Galaxy S8. Let me know in
