Corporate world - Random thoughts #1

Hi Guys, hope you all are doing well in these hard times. Honestly, I don't know why I keep pretending as if there are real folks who read this blog, but since just having this illusion makes me happy I'll continue to do it :P Alright, back to post, so I know a lot has happened since my last post and sure there were things I wanted to talk about like the recent Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra launch event besides other things, I've to admit it this, is by far the most good looking phone I've ever seen. But lets just keep all those to side for a minute and focus on what I really want to share with you guys today.

Worklife balance corporate life IT

I'm not sure if I have shared this with you guys before, so stating it beforehand I've been working at a  consultancy firm full time for the past 2 years or so. My journey so far has been full of highs and lows, there have been some very bad days and some good days as well. And for the most part, it's a little towards the negative side. Although, this has nothing to do with my colleagues or my boss, I guess it's how system that has evolved over so many years and is in it's present state which in my opinion is not ideal.

The reason, I'm talking about this is now is because something happened with me yesterday. So, it was around 12:30 pm and I was busy doing my project work. Suddenly, I saw a mail from my boss and he asked me to jump on a call with him. I do share a very good relationship with my boss and although this is my first ever job so, I don't have any past boss experiences but I can still say that it's rare to find such a boss in the corporate world. Never mind, moving on, so, I get on this call we discuss some usual stuff like family, friends etc and then he told me that how he had to fight the upper management to get me promoted Yes, I got a promotion in these times when more and more people are becoming jobless and I'm very grateful for that, but one thing that I hate the most is getting something that I don't deserve or people doing favors to me.

I just hate taking favors from anyone except my family members and a very few people who I consider friends. So, when I heard that this promotion didn't come entirely because I deserved it but because someone out there backed my case when the management was against it, I was very upset and I was almost about to share this with my boss but the next thing that he said just completely f***ed my mind.

He said that the management was reluctant to promote me because even though my project delivery was outstanding and I'm already performing well at par with the expectations for the next hierarchy level but, I'm often working late nights which will not be good for my team once I'm in a leadership role.

I completely agree with this I've been slogging in 12-16 hours daily for the past 2 years but not even on a single day I did that by choice. The timelines that we guys have for our projects can practically never allow any of us to follow the typical 9 to 5 lifestyle, we always have to stretch our day to meet the project milestones on time and it's not about efficiency or productivity not at least in my case. I'm don't intend to boast of my skills or anything of that sort, I don't even have those kind of skills that I can boast about but, what I'm confident about is that I'm more than enough skilled to get my tasks done if given an appropriate timeline.

So, if I was spending those extra hours working instead of being with my family for dinner or just having a conversation with my dad, brother or friends then it was probably because if I didn't do that the project would not have been delivered on time, which would mean my project delivery would have been rated low (a foundational aspect for measuring performance in my organization) which in turn would impact my review for promotion. You see that now, in either case it's me who loses.

After hearing this I'm completely shocked. I don't even know how to express my true feelings, I haven't talked with anyone about this not even my family, so thought of sharing this on this blog because I know if someday someone just happens to be on this page and spends time reading this he/she would be able to provide a neutral opinion on this. I know it'll be too late for that but it'll still be important for me and I would still value that. For now, I just feel that these corporate firms have nothing to do with the life of their employees all they want is to make profits and cut costs wherever they can.

Alright, then that's all for now guys, I'm planning to start something new on this blog which I'll share in the next posts but till then, stay safe and keep smiling :)

Peace!

  1. Shaving is the first thing every man think of after waking up. Shaving the beard and moustache is not as easy as you see on the TV commercials. The blades are sharp and can make cuts on the face if not done with focus and care. To prevent this, you can buy bestmassage online as well as from markets in Lahore.
